Cedar Fair has decided to pull the plug on FearVR at all three parks, Knott's Berry Farm, Great America and Canada's Wonderland due to a small group of vocal people who never experienced the attraction. I was very excited to take part in this attraction and I am very disappointed to see it go so soon and under such horrible circumstances.
Knott's Scary Farm is an adult orientated event and has always pushed the boundaries of technology and their guests to create interesting experiences. I think this was handled completely wrong from Cedar Fair's side and the protesters side. What should have happened was an open dialog, allow the protesters to experience it and see that it was actually a paranormal experience and in no way made fun of or light of people with mental health issues. The show is actually much more closely related to this summers hit Netflix show Stranger Things and featured a girl who was demonically possessed and had telekinetic powers, who escapes from her holding area and is trying to escape the research facility. Of course being an adult event, it was a little more gruesome than Stranger Things but the parallels are there. The other issue now is just a few years ago a petition was sent around to have Knott's pull the new Feista De Los Muertos scare zone and Knott's chose to fully ignore it. How does it look on a company to ignore the issues the Hispanic community have for the event, yet when a rich powerful white family has issues with something, they immediately bend a knee and remove the attraction. I am fully in the camp of the fans of Knott's Scary Farm to bring the attraction back and saying no to ignorant social justice warriors getting to sensor what I can and can not participate in. If you agree I urge you to sign the petition at the link below and lets show Cedar Fair that we want these wonderful experiences and for them to continue to push the envelope of fear!
